Stone pelting at Assam-Arunachal border; CMs appeal for peace

Tension escalated near Likabali along the Assam-Arnachal Pradesh border on August 13 after incidents of stone pelting were reported in the area. Sources said the situation prompted Assam Police to fire four rounds. However, no injuries were reported and the situation is currently under control. the incident comes amid an economic blockade in several border areas of north assam that began on august 12th the takam missing poor in kebang a student organization of the missing community had called a 12-hour shutdown in demarji district following an alleged firing incident in the ming mong bodoti area along the interstate boundary on august 10th in which 11 assam villagers were reportedly fired upon. The firing followed a dispute over land claimed by Assam and allegedly occupied by people from Arunachal Pradesh. Assam Chief Minister Hemant Abiswasarma appealed on social media platform X to people on both sides of the border to maintain peace and harmony He said 52 villagers remain under dispute and that the two state governments would continue discussions to resolve the issue Earlier Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu held discussions with the all Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union and representatives of the Galu Welfare Society, Galu Students' Union and Dolokh Bango Welfare Society over the situation at Himay village near the Assam border. Khandu said the priority was to facilitate dialogue and restore normalcy at the earliest. He added that stakeholders were being engaged to maintain peace and mutual trust.
