Two held with 32.64 grams heroin in separate operations at Meghalaya’s Umiam

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force or the ANTF detained two persons and seized a total of 32.64 grams of suspected heroin in two separate incidents at Meghalaya's Omiam on August 10. In the first incident, the ANTF received information around 7pm that a suspected drug peddler identified as Alan Marwain of Maulainong Kwar had allegedly travelled to Guwahati to procure heroin and was returning to Shillong in his vehicle. Anaka was subsequently set up at Umiam. At around 9.30pm, a vehicle bearing registration number AS01AV1166 was intercepted at Lad Umiam. Marwain was found driving the vehicle and was detained. During the search, one soapbox containing yellow-orange powder was recovered from beneath the left front seat of the vehicle. The substance was wrapped in a black polythene bag. A preliminary test reportedly confirmed the presence of heroin. The seized substance had a net weight of 10.93 grams. In another incident later that night, the ANTF tried to intercept a scooter bearing registration number ML05AB9546 at around 11pm However on being signaled the scooter travelling towards Shillong allegedly tried to flee after its rider noticed the NACA team The team managed to stop the scooter and detained the rider identified as Jaisal Nongjob aim During a body search, two soap cases containing yellow-orange powder was allegedly recovered from inside AIM's jacket. The packets were wrapped in black polythene and placed inside a pink plastic bag. A preliminary test reportedly showed the presence of heroin of a total net weight of 21.71 grams.
