Jharkhand vs Jantar Mantar: What’s Similar & What’s Different?

Has the Jantar Mantar protest created a template for student movements across India? Well, I'm at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Jharkhand's Ranchi, where students are protesting against unnecessary regularities in the JPSC exam. And there are many similarities and differences as well between this protest and the Jantar Mantar protest. It will be interesting to examine some of the symbols, some of the placards, the posters, and the overall behavior here of the protesters and compare it with the Janthar Mantra student protest because that really became a big rallying point for students and youngsters across India. So I'm outside the designated protest site and here, of course, good Samaritans have come with food and water supply for protesters out here. These protesters are staying up all night agitating the money accountability from the government. And here you have these water containers that have been set up by NGOs and some good Samaritans like I said for protesters. Here, if I move forward, you can see this huge queue here, almost a serpentine queue for food being served to students. Here you can see food is being served to students here, to protesters. And this was something that was really talked about as far as the Jandar Bandar protest is concerned. At one point, there was so much food that the organisers had to appeal to people across India that don't send us more food. But here as well, people have organised food for protesters here. Now what is interesting and different about this protest is that this man Abhay Tiwari has been arrested by the CID and he is at the center of this recruitment racket. So it is not as simple as a paper leak here. The fact is that the JPSC was rocked by allegations of irregularities in a recruitment racket. This man Abhay Tiwari was running allegedly a recruitment racket where so a protester just asked me to remove my slippers so I'm doing that and it was my bad that I you know stepped onto this stage as it were with my slippers but I was talking about Abhay Tiwari and this man allegedly sold seats for lakhs of rupees to government job aspirants and he had many of his family members who were also you know in government jobs and now all of that is you know There's a shadow on that because did this man manage to recruit all of those people through these irregularities and discrepancies? They're also calling him Rachika Surma Bhopali or Albert Einstein because he has cleared many government examinations, allegedly with these unfair means, allegedly through these unfair means. Now here, so many of the protesters here have three basic demands. They want the JPSC exam and all the exams that were held by this agency called TDPL, which was blacklisted in other states, to be cancelled. They want a CBI probe because they don't trust the state CID with the probe. And thirdly, they want a reform, an overarching reform, as far as these commissions are concerned, because this is not about one exam. This is about Jharkhand's broken exam ecosystem. But here, if I go forward and show you some of these protesters and the slogans that they are raising, they are raising similar slogans. They are raising slogans like Chhat Rekta Zindabad. They are raising slogans like Vande Mataram. So these are the slogans that these people are raising, similar to the slogans that we heard also in the Jantar Mantra protest.
